Critical philosophies proliferate in answer to today's renewed interest in communism, but they often fail to develop concrete political goals to address today's crises, a weakness that further fragments the resistance to capitalism. Isabelle Garo examines the conditions behind a contemporary revival in political alternatives as a collective construction, anchoring her analysis in real aspirations and struggles inseparable from a rethinking of the theoretical work. Garo addresses the impasses faced by many influential radical theorists - Alain Badiou, Ernesto Laclau, Antonio Negri, Michael Hardt, Christian Laval and Pierre Dardot - and revisits them in relation to Marx and Gramsci. She rereads the Marxist canon from the point of view of contemporary questions of the state and the party, of work and property, of conflict and hegemony. To rethink strategy is above all to re-explore the question of mediations, whether they be forms of organisation or existing mobilisations, as sites par excellence of political invention.
